Hugely flexible dishwashing.
A brilliant freestanding dishwasher, the Haier XF 4A4M4PDA-80’s Maxi Tub gives a lot more space inside. It’s not just about the space, but how well organised it is: flexible tines, rubber-edged grips for glass protection, and a clever cutlery rack with dedicated sprayers, make this one of the most flexible dishwashers that I’ve loaded. Excellent wash results and low running costs combine with a useful smart app and make this a brilliant high-end dishwasher.

Introduction
Getting the best results from a dishwasher requires a model that’s easy and convenient to load, and wash cycles and options that handle even heavily soiled items. These are things that the freestanding Haier XF 4A4M4PDA-80 has covered in detail.
Add in its clever smart app, large tub and low running costs, and this is more than just another basic dishwasher.
Design and features
- Compatible with the hOn app
- Flexible interior
- Lots of wash options
A high-end washing machine, the Haier XF 4A4M4PDA-80 has the looks to go with its price. Finished in a gorgeous dark metal, this dishwasher oozes class and will look good in any style kitchen.
It’s not just about looks, as the Haier XF 4A4M4PDA-80 is exceptionally well designed, and it has a Maxi Tub, which gives 10% more space in the cavity compared to a standard dishwasher.

Larger tubs are becoming more popular at all price points, even with a more mid-range model, such as the Hoover H-DISH 700 HF 6B4S1PX 80. A larger tub doesn’t mean that you can fit more in, as such, but you do have more room for items, so you are less likely to run into problems, such as a lowered top basket’s spray arm hitting plates below.
Here, with the Haier XF 4A4M4PDA-80, I could easily fit in my tall wine glasses in the middle shelf, and still have space below for large plates.

Haier has made some other clever design decisions to not only fit in a lot of items, but also to protect them. Each stem holder in the top rack has a rubber ring inside to protect the glass, and there are moveable rubber-lined glass holders, so that your delicate glass isn’t resting on hard plastic. The top rack also has fold-down tines for smaller plates and saucers.

The bottom rack is very cleverly designed, with its dish-holding tines aligned front to back, rather than the more traditional horizontal layout.

I found that this made it easier to fill the dishwasher from back to front, and the four sets of tines can be folded down individually to accommodate larger items, such as casserole dishes or pans.

At the top is the cutlery rack, which is similar to those in other dishwashers that I’ve reviewed. However, there are dedicated spray arms here for use with the Cutlery Boost button. When you’ve got very dirty cutlery, direct jets of water help deep clean.

There’s also a Power Wash spray arm at the back of the dishwasher under the bottom rack. This sprays high-intensity water at one location and is ideal for cleaning very dirty pans. This feature is enabled automatically with some wash cycles. I’d prefer it if this option could be turned on manually, as with the similar 3D Zone wash option in the Hotpoint HF7HP33UK.
Wash options are chosen via the controls on the door, and the selection is highlighted on the internal LCD.

There are all of the options that you’d expect, plus two AI modes that adjust water and power usage based on the level of dirt detected, two fast modes (59- and 20-minute), and a Flex Zone Wash that lets me select which half to clean.

For most cycles, the door pops open at the end to aid drying, but there’s also an Ultra Dry button that uses the internal fans to circulate air. That could be handy if you have a lot of plasticware to wash, as these typically cool fast and water condenses on them.
Once you hit the play button and shut the door, the external LCD shows the current time remaining.

As I’ve come to expect from the company, the Haier XF 4A4M4PDA-80 is compatible with the hOn app, which gives remote control. That’s useful for getting a notification when a cycle has finished, but the app also adds in the eco schedule.
If you’ve got a time-of-use tariff, where energy is cheaper at certain times, you can plug this information into the app, and the dishwasher will then run when power is cheapest, saving money.
Performance
- Low running costs, particularly in Eco
- Deep cleans
I tested the Haier XF 4A4M4PDA-80 in my usual way, testing cleaning performance and running costs, across a variety of cycles. I started with the Eco cycle, which cost just 17p, assuming a unit cost of 24.5p per kWh (we keep this level, as it typically balances out over a year and makes it easier to compare different products).
I found this a decent cycle for most common stains. My coffee cup, for example, was brought up nice and clean.
The same was true of the tea-stained mug, which was fully cleaned.
My tall wine glass with dried-on red wine was also properly cleaned, although (and hard to see in images), there was a slight water stain around the rim from the angle at which the glass had to sit.
A tablespoon used to serve mac and cheese, was brought back to its best, and I didn’t have to use the dedicated cutlery option.
Likewise, my mac and cheese-covered plate was fully cleaned.
As was my plate with dried-on ketchup.
My toughest test is the bowl used to make microwave scrambled egg. This was cleaned well, but look carefully and you can see some dried on egg that the dishwasher couldn’t clean.
I then moved on to the Intense wash cycle. This costs 49p to run, which is expensive, but in line with similar dishwashers. This mode handled all of the above as well, but also fully cleaned my dirty egg bowl. For very dirty dishes, this mode is well worth using.
Using the AI mode, with a variety of dirty items, including another plate with mac and cheese, and the eggy bowl, running costs were 42p. Impressively, the egg bowl was fully cleaned, so this mode is great if you have quite soiled dishes and aren’t quite sure which mode is best for you.

I then tried the fast wash options. The 20-minute cycle cost just 11p, but dishes came out quite wet, with suds in the bottom of the tub.

Cleaning performance wasn’t great, either, and clear stains were left in the bottom of my coffee mug.
Upping to the 59-minute wash, costs increased to 28p, but cleaning performance of lightly soiled items, such as my coffee mug, were much better. This cycle is comparatively expensive, but if you need lightly soiled items to be washed fast, then it’s a handy option to have.

Final Thoughts
Thoughtfully designed and with low running costs, particularly on the Eco cycle, the Haier XF 4A4M4PDA-80 has a brilliant internal layout and, with the right cycle selection, it can clean even tough stains.
It’s one of the more expensive dishwashers, but if you want quality results, the option to schedule off-peak washing for even lower costs, and the flexibility that other dishwashers don’t have, then it’s a great choice.
