SAN PEDRO CHOLULA, MEXICO — The World Class Film Awards 2026 celebrated one of its most globally diverse editions on Saturday night, bringing filmmakers, actors, producers, artists and cultural figures from around the world to San Pedro Cholula, Puebla, for an evening dedicated to achievement, cultural exchange and independent storytelling.
Held on August 8 at Teatro Cholula Ciudad Sagrada, the ceremony turned the historic Mexican city into a meeting point for the global film community. Honorees and guests represented a wide range of nationalities and cultural backgrounds, including the United States, Australia, Canada, India, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Nigeria and Mexico, among others.
At the heart of the evening was the presentation of the World Class Film Awards, recognizing creators whose careers span cinema, television, visual arts and independent production. Among the honorees were Nicole A. Ashley, Lynn Santer, Liz Macías, John Montoya, Dean Vegas, Arlette Wembe, Sophia Romma, Bruno Llanes, Miguel Raymond, Jaya George, Thomas Whiteley, Dolapo Erinkitola, Vicentini Gomez, Brandon Glover, Kimber Leigh, Abhishek Mishrra, Cecy Rendón, Jordan Nancarrow, Le’Roy Kester, Eric Hamilton, Lois Banks and Mark Niedelson.
The evening also recognized leading public figures from Puebla whose work has contributed to the state’s cultural, artistic and global projection, beginning with Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier, alongside Carla López-Malo Villalón, Víctor Gerardo Gabriel Chedraui and Natalie Hoyos López. The event received the support of San Pedro Cholula Mayor Tonantzin Fernández and her team, strengthening the relationship between the festival, its host city and Puebla’s cultural community.
One of the evening’s major guests of honor was acclaimed Mexican actor and producer Humberto Busto, whose career includes Amores Perros, El Chapo, Diablero and Oso Polar. His appearance in Cholula comes ahead of another major career milestone: Tijuana, todavía, the film he stars in and produces, is set to have its world premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival after being developed through Biennale College Cinema.
The gala also welcomed special guests such as mexican actor and entertainer Freddy Ortega, major digital creators Fer Carnal and Magdalena Bembenek, and entrepreneur Anabel Bello Cortés, invited in recognition of their influence in projecting Mexican culture, identity and creative vision to audiences around the world.
A central figure throughout the evening was Rafael Moreno Valle Buitrón, who took part in the event as its Cultural Ambassador, reinforcing the connection between the visiting film community, Puebla and Mexico. International icon Priscilla Presley joined the ceremony through a special video message presented as part of her recognition.
Beyond the awards, Australian performer Dean Vegas delivered a live Elvis tribute, while a traditional pre-Hispanic dance presentation brought the cultural heritage of Cholula directly to the stage.
The 2026 edition was made possible with the support of Dr. Porfirio Ramírez Mendoza, Rafa Piccard Agency, Natura Glow, Luna de Plata Mezcal, Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala, Hamo, Cien Fuegos, Casa Juárez, Casa Mexica and HP Publicidad, as well as institutional representatives and local collaborators.
The ceremony was hosted by Rocío Plasencia and Mexican wrestler Xelhua, who guided the evening’s program and award presentations.
Led by World Class Film Awards directors Sara Plasencia and Rodrigo Rayón, the event reflected the organization’s broader mission of bringing together creative voices from different countries while building meaningful connections between filmmakers and the communities that welcome them.
By the end of the night, San Pedro Cholula had become more than the backdrop for the 2026 awards. For one evening, the city stood at the center of a worldwide celebration of filmmakers, stories and the people committed to bringing them to the screen.
