The Pixel 11 is a tricky sell. It’s the priciest standard Pixel yet, and while the switch to 256GB storage softens the blow, the higher price still feels hard to justify. It matches or even beats the Pro in some areas, but not enough to make it feel like obvious value.

Introduction
For a long time, the standard, entry-level Google Pixel has offered a compelling smartphone experience that’s considerably more affordable than the entry-level iPhone and Samsung phones of the world.
Now, thanks predominantly to the RAM and storage crisis, Google – like many other manufacturers – has been forced to respond by raising prices. And with that, is pushing its bog-standard Pixel 11 up to a price point that’s pretty uncomfortable for a phone of its kind. But is it worth it?
Let’s get into this conundrum, shall we?
Design

You can generally recognise a Pixel phone from a mile off or, at least, you can if you look at it from the back. For the past few years, Google has stuck with that long, pill-shaped camera bar running across the back of the phone.

What you might struggle with is telling the different Pixel models apart from each other. With the Pixel 11, the tell-tale difference between this and its predecessor is that the glass panel has expanded to fill the entire camera island, where the previous model had an off-centre look, part-finished with aluminium.
If there are any other changes, they’re very hard to spot. The camera bump is slightly slimmer than last time, so the cameras don’t protrude as much. But apart from some new splashes of colour, like the bright pink Hibiscus model and the gorgeous green Pistachio version, there’s very little here that’s different to the Pixel 10. Even down to the size, thickness and weight.

It’s not the slimmest or lightest phone around – the Galaxy S26 has it comfortably beaten there – but it is a comfortable phone to use day in and day out. It certainly doesn’t have that weighty, chunky and uncomfortable feel of the Pro XL models. And the generous rounding on the corners and softened edges mean it doesn’t dig into your palm when gripped.
As before, the phone is covered front and back in Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and built with an aluminium mid-frame bearing an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. It’s built for everyday use and will survive most of what you throw at it. Unless you happen to be throwing bricks.

Along with that iconic design, it’s the software that draws people to the Pixel. The playful interface, widget design, and user-friendly approach to layers, graphics and customisation are what give it its Pixelly vibe. And it’s the one reason I’ve always historically gone back to a Pixel to use as my daily Android phone when I’m not testing and reviewing something else.

I’d make a case for the fact that outright specs and performance don’t matter as much as a user experience that’s this enjoyable day in and day out.
Pixel 11 launches with Android 17 out of the box and with a handful of new AI-powered features in the form of Gemini Intelligence. That does come with something of a caveat – in that not all regions get the same experience. Gemini Intelligence’s new all-seeing, system-wide, proactive capabilities are restricted to the US market at this moment, so we haven’t been able to test those features.

A lot of the other new features added in Android 17 have already been available on older Pixel models for a little while now, following the public release of the software earlier this summer. Things like app bubbles or floating windows for every app, most useful for the larger internal screens of Pixel Fold models, and recording screen reactions directly on the phone using the screen recorder.
One of the most useful updates for anyone who prefers to dictate than actually type messages or notes is Gboard’s Rambler mode. It automatically gets rid of any pauses in your speech, or any ‘er’, ‘um’, ‘ah’ instances when you’re trying to find your next word. It works pretty well, and generally means you don’t have to take much time at all to edit the text afterwards.

I even tested it by mis-speaking, then saying ‘scratch that’, and it seemed to know which bit I meant, then included just the bit I said afterwards. It can be very clever.
As always with Google, many of the new features find their way to older models as long as they have the hardware to support them. So it’s certainly not a reason to buy this specific model of Pixel. And that may just be the Pixel 11’s biggest hurdle to overcome. A lot of what makes it good is or will be available on older Pixel models that’ll cost you less.
Screen
- Bright, sharp and vibrant screen

There are both good and bad elements to the Pixel 11’s display. In the good column is the fact it’s a very bright, vibrant and crispy sharp panel. With peaks capable of reaching up to 3000 nits, it tends not to struggle in many environments. Not as much as its predecessor did, at least.
The surface of the glass isn’t the most anti-reflective I’ve ever used, but the screen is bright enough to cut through in most settings. Outdoors, shooting video and photos, I rarely struggled to see what was on the screen and was able to frame my shots the way I wanted without guesswork.

I also really like Pixel’s default tuning, which is quite warm and rich, giving video a natural tone that looks like it could have been filmed during golden hour. It sometimes boosts reds and warm colours a bit more than I’d like, but on the whole, it’s a great screen for watching videos and gaming on.
What I think is almost unforgivable at this stage, though, especially in a phone that costs as much as this, is that it’s not an LTPO display. That means it’s not capable of adjusting its refresh rates at incremental levels, effectively either locked to 60Hz or 120Hz depending on what you’re doing on the screen. It can switch between those two and can’t go any lower.
That tends to impact software features and battery life in a couple of ways. First, because it can’t drop to very low refresh rates, it can’t conserve battery when you’re doing things like reading a static page. So if you’re reading your Kindle app, news, or a web article, it’s still going to be refreshing at a rate that’s higher than it needs. This drains battery.

Secondly, because of this, the always-on display options are limited. It can show a basic white clock on a black background – like Android phones have been able to do for years – but won’t offer the ability to have a dimmed version of your Lock Screen wallpaper like the Pro model will. And even enabling this basic always-on display comes with a ‘may drain more battery’ warning.
You could save some battery by not having the 120Hz ‘smooth’ refresh rate enabled, but if you do you’re going to be stuck with 60Hz for everything. Having used nothing but 120Hz for the past few years now, that difference is quite jarring and isn’t worth putting up with the stuttery, laggy animations just to save a little battery juice.
Cameras

More than chasing hardware specs and performance, Google’s approach to the camera has long been about leveraging its computational prowess to improve photos, but also give you lots of tools and features to make traditionally complex techniques super easy.
That suite’s been added to this year with Magic Capture, which records video but then uses AI to automatically detect the action points and separate them out as photos.

There’s also Google’s version of Apple’s Photographic styles – called Camera Looks – that offers up four different preset looks that you can choose from. So if you don’t like Google’s default Original look, you can pick the ‘Natural’ version, which has a more relaxed approach to detail and doesn’t flatten out the contrast as much. There’s also shadows, which boosts shadows, and then Vanilla which is a warm, golden, soft look.
You even get a teleprompter mode where you can upload your script and read it while recording. Google’s interface puts it directly in the eyeline to make it easier to read without making it look too obvious that you’re looking at a script. Sadly, this wasn’t anywhere near good enough for me to use in my day-to-day shorts production. It often didn’t pick up that I’d read the next line, and so I had to go back and do it again, more than once.

For the most part, this collection of features means you’ll have much the same experience on the Pixel 11 as on the Pixel 11 Pro. But the camera department is also the area where the Pro model is more capable. The regular 11 has smaller sensors across all three lenses and has much lower-resolution sensors in its ultrawide and telephoto zoom lenses.

It’s in the ultrawide camera in particular I noticed the weakness, and predominantly at night time where it would often struggle to draw in a clean image. It was often washed out and grainy, introducing quite a lot of noise in the shadowed parts of the image.
Like its display, the Pixel camera processing has something of a consistent look that’s been largely the same for the past few generations. It’s warm, maybe lifts the shadows a little bit too much, but also does a great job of taming highlights.
These smaller sensors on the Pixel 11 do introduce a little bit of graininess in the shadows and grey clouds, but if you want a camera you can go out with and just point, shoot and get a good shot, it’s hard to look past the Pixel. Google’s computational approach to processing takes care of all the hard bits so you don’t have to be an expert to get good-looking photos.
It struggles a little at night time due to its hardware constraints, though. The primary camera is mostly fine in these conditions, snapping sharp, detailed images in a couple of seconds. As mentioned, though, the Ultrawide is quite weak in low light, as is the telephoto zoom. This 5x zoom lens offers a lot of versatility in the daytime, enabling some great close-up images as long as there’s good light around. At night, details get quite mushy, and it struggles to match the sharpness and cleanness offered by the main lens.
Performance

I think by this point, it’s always safe to assume any Pixel phone will leave any avid mobile gamers wanting more.
The Tensor G6 processor isn’t really built for crunching through the most graphically demanding game titles like Wuthering Waves or Genshin Impact at their higher settings. In fact, those two in particular are virtually unplayable because the developers don’t really support Google’s phones.

Even sitting down to play a little Destiny Rising, I’d often find the animations stutter and lag, and that was in the lowest ‘standard’ setting. It wouldn’t even let me select higher frame rates, saying my device doesn’t support them.
Whether or not that bothers you largely depends on how you use your phone every day. If you’re more about scrolling through social media, WhatsApping and snapping photos than destroying your enemies in Call of Duty Mobile, the Pixel will more than serve your needs. And it will handle most mobile games perfectly well – and cope with your typical 15-30 minute sessions without too much trouble. But it does leave me with the feeling you’re overpaying for a phone which, in effect, has a mid-range level of power.

Running it through the usual suite of benchmark tests, the numbers generally tell the same story. Whether it’s Geekbench’s single- and multi-core processing test, or the 3DMark graphics tests and stress tests, the results point to a phone that’s quite underpowered compared to its direct competition in its price range. And it’s not even significantly better than the Pixel 10 that came before it.
Battery life
- Can get through a busy day, but not much longer

It’s a similar story with battery life. On my busier days, it fairly comfortably got me to the end of the day. Those more demanding days when I ran my benchmark tests, tested the camera and did some casual gaming for a couple of hours (totalling about 5 hours of screen time) I finished the day with about 30% left. Not enough to attempt a second day, and so typically I’d find myself needing to plug it in to charge most nights.

For the busiest power users, you’d probably scrape through a day – just about. But it’s quite far from being a two-day phone, and it could be so much better if only Google put a more energy-efficient display on the front. Compared to the Galaxy S26 from Samsung, with its smaller 4300mAh battery, it didn’t offer any significant benefit over Samsung’s competitor.
Charging it up again after it’s depleted is fairly convenient, but again, nowhere near market-leading in terms of speed.

Google claims it’ll do a 55% refill in 30 minutes when plugged into a 30W charger. The reality is that it tends to pull 26W of power, and that it can take between 90 and 100 minutes to do a full refill from empty. And that’s with the ‘Extreme Charging’ feature enabled, which restricts background activity and prioritises charging when your phone is under 50%.
With that feature enabled, it topped up around 27% in the first 15 minutes and 54% in the first half hour when plugged into a fast charger. Clearly then, not far off Google’s claims at all. It still takes an additional hour to do the remaining 45%, which is something to bear in mind if you need to have a completely filled battery.
Its 25W Qi 2.2 wireless charging support means wireless charging convenience isn’t far off being the same speed, but it will generally take longer due to lower wattage and the fact that wireless is always less efficient than wired.

Should you buy it?
You want the classic Pixel experience
The Pixel 11 delivers Google’s familiar mix of clean software, clever AI camera features and dependable point-and-shoot photography in a comfortable, well-built design.
You want the best value for money
The Pixel 11 is much more expensive than its predecessor, yet its performance, battery life and display tech don’t feel like a major step forward.
Final Thoughts
In the end, the latest Pixel is a conundrum. It’s the most expensive standard Pixel model we’ve seen so far. Looking at this purely on the surface – and using UK pricing just as an example – last year’s cheapest Pixel 10 was £699. This year’s cheapest Pixel 11 is £879. Nearly £200 more.
It is worth pointing out that the cheapest model now comes with 256GB storage, not 128GB like last time, and if you’re to compare the prices of the previous 256GB model with this one, the price increase is a much more palatable £80. And that’s the kind of price difference we’re seeing across the board from multiple manufacturers this year.
The puzzling thing is that in most areas – speaking battery life, general performance and features – it matches, and sometimes beats its Pro-labelled sibling.
