EGO LB6700E Review

Verdict

If you want a ridiculously powerful leaf blower that easily competes with petrol versions, the EGO LB6700E is a phenomenal piece of kit. It’s heavy and extremely loud on full speed, but if you want power over anything else, this is a solid choice.

  • Incredibly powerful

  • Variable speed trigger or dial-controlled

  • Impressive runtime on low power

  • Heavy at more than 4 kg

  • Noisy at top speed

Key Features

Introduction

Everything about the EGO LB6700E blower is big, bold, and powerful. Running on the company’s mighty 56 Volt battery ecosystem, this blower can produce enormous amounts of air flow when needed. Supplied with a useful pair of nozzle tips, it’s a practical device if you have a big garden and plenty of stuff to blow around.

Design and Features

  • Huge and comfortable handle
  • Two ways to control, a variable speed trigger or dial
  • Two nozzle tips – focused jet and a wide sweeper attachment

The EGO LB6700E’s big silver, black and green body looks futuristic and feels like it’s built to last. Chunky but well-balanced with the big 5.0Ah battery in place, it’s a formidable machine best suited to medium- to large-sized gardens.

Weighing 2.1 kg without the battery, and 4.4 kg with, this is a hefty garden tool to hold in one hand. Luckily, this weighty piece of kit has been made as easy to hold on to as possible. The huge handle makes it easy to use, even with large hands wearing thick gardening gloves.

Something I like about this blower is that there’s two ways to control the air speed. You can either use the variable speed trigger for fine control or select a constant air speed with the dial on the side. Essentially, the dial is like cruise control allowing you to choose one of four speeds and it will keep it there.

To fine-tune the blowing modes, the LB6700E comes with a pair of nozzle tips. One is a simple circular nozzle that produces a focused jet of air, but you can swap it for a wide broom attachment if you want. It reduces the air speed but makes path clearance a doddle.

The big battery provided with the blower is an impressive piece of engineering too. Curved to fit on the back of its range of tools, the battery is a 56V, 5.0Ah model.

The charger is another sizeable piece of equipment. It stands up on its end and shows the charge level in four green blinking lights. It keeps itself cool with a fan that runs at 56dB, which isn’t loud, but a little bit annoying.

Storing the blower is made as easy as possible with a handy hook holder positioned on the back.

Performance

  • Enormous amounts of power available
  • Huge runtime on lowest power settings
  • Heavy if used for long periods of time

As I expected from a large and heavy blower like this, it’s designed for bigger leaf blowing tasks. It’s all about air speed and volume of air moving around rather than the fine precision you can get from little blowers, such as the Ryobi RY18BLCXA.

EGO’s tagline is “power beyond belief”, and it’s not wrong there. Pulling the trigger all the way unleashes up to 8.5m/s (measured from 1m away), which is more than most consumer leaf blowers. But if you really need to dial it up to 11, there’s a boost button on top of the handle. I measured the wind speed at a massive 15.3m/s from 1m away, but be warned that in this mode, it runs at a very loud 110 dB.

With this kind of power, you can shift pretty much anything or deal with large piles of leaves quickly.

While power is good, the EGO LB6700E does compromise on comfort during long leaf-blowing sessions. Holding it in one hand and coping with the force that pushes your hand back gets tiring after a while. Although it can certainly move the leaves around the garden, it’s not suitable for gardeners of all sizes and abilities. This hefty piece of kit takes a bit of strength to use for more than a few minutes at a time.

The practical runtime varies hugely. On the lowest power setting it can run for well over two hours, but the boost mode will drain the battery in just 15 minutes. On full power it will run for 30 minutes.

Should you buy it?

You have lots of leaves to clear and you want to get rid of your old petrol leaf blower

If power and air flow is your main priority, this is the best choice.

You need something light and manoeuvrable

Weighing close to 4.5 kg, it’s not the easiest to handle over long periods.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t a lightweight piece of garden equipment. It’s heavy and it’s bulky, but if you need raw power, it’s hard to beat. Built like a tank and with just as much firepower, it’s a genuine replacement for a heavy-duty petrol leaf blower. If you need something for smaller jobs, read the guide to the best leaf blowers.
