Verdict
Well equipped and powerful, the Braun MultiQuick 9 is brilliant at everything it does. From smoothing vegetables for soups to crushing ice, it really does do it all. It has three speeds to work through and you can control how fast this speed is released with the responsive SmartSpeed switch. I found it comfortable to hold and easy to switch between and attach the accessories. The safety catch can take some getting used to, but after a few uses you’ll soon get the hang of releasing it.

Key Features
Introduction
The Braun MultiQuick 9 features new, cutting edge technology and is so much more than a stick blender. It comes with attachments that’ll ultimately spark creativity in the kitchen, to lend a hand at snack times and meal times.
In fact, this is one of Braun’s flagship products and it is highly regarded as one of the best blenders on the market. It has 1200W of power to pulse, puree and crush across two speeds. As someone who is skeptical until proven otherwise, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this stick blender kit so it can show me what its capable of.
With an £132.99 RRP the price is punchy. I’ve been trying it out for the past few weeks to find out if it’s worth it.
Design and Features
- 3 speeds
- Flexible shaft
- Safety features
The Braun MultiQuick 9 comes with a 500ml Chopper, 600ml Beaker, Stainless Steel Coffee/Spice Grinder, Ice Blade and Stainless Steel Whisk. The Grinder and Ice Blade are for use with the Chopper. And all are powered by the 1200W powered motor with Active PowerDrive Technology.
It also has some other “technology”.
At the top is imode. This is where you can switch between speed settings; pulse, low speed and high speed.
Underneath and to the side of imode is the SmartSpeed switch. The more you press, the higher the speed. The higher the speed, the faster and finer the blending and chopping results. You can also do this with one hand.

The stick’s blade is also a world first (according to the product listing). It has ActiveBlade Technology, which moves the blade up and down. This claims to require up to 40% less effort compared to the older Braun MultiQuick 7 on a raw potato.
With the stick attached to the motor, the blender can stand tall, which could prove to be a useful storage solution.

The Multi9 is also equipped with a safety catch. At first, I found it a little awkward to hold down the lock and the trigger with one hand to release this catch while the other hand was holding the beaker or chopper steady. However, after several uses I got used to this necessary quirk.
Performance
- Intuitive to use
- Powerful chopping
- Easy to clean
When you’re ready to start using the Braun MultiQuick 9 Hand Blender it would be prudent to give everything a quick hand wash. You can then spend some time to familiarise on a the capabilities.
I first turned breadsticks into breadcrumbs. To do this I used the 500ml chopper attachment with chopping knife blade. This blade is also suitable for use with coffee beans and spices. The breadcrumbs were just as I was expecting; consistently refined, more closely resembling powder.

I then made cake batter with the whisk attachment secured to the motor with EasyClick System. I needed to hold the bowl in position while whisking because even on the lowest setting the whisk wanted to take it for a spin too.
The batter was evenly mixed, and a lot smoother than I had been previously achieving with my manual whisker.

Next up, I crushed some ice. This was loud. I used the chopper with ice knife which looked a lot sharper than the other one (it even had a blade protector). I popped in 12 ice cubes and activated the Braun MultiQuick 9. The noise makes it sound very unhappy, but nothing was broken and the ice was evenly crushed.

For lunch I opted to make a vegetable soup using the stick blender. I cooked the vegetables in stock so they were soft enough to smooth, and then transfered this over to the 600ml plastic beaker. I clicked in the shaft of the blade to the motor and my kit was set.
Within 5 seconds the celery, carrots and potatoes had been beatufilly smoothed. I pushed the stick blender to the bottom of the 600ml plastic beaker to make sure I was chopping all the vegetables, with the ActiveBlade Technology flexible shaft moving the blade up and down to smooth any crunchier carrots left around the bottom. I used the low speed mode and gently pressed on the trigger to prevent the soup-to-be from leaving the beaker. If you opt to use the stick blender in a pan, the shaft is equipped with SPLASHControl Technology in a bid for a cleaner kitchen.

Apart from the motor, all accessories are dishwasher safe. Alternatively, hand washing is an option – just be careful with the blades.
On the lower speed setting and “pulse” I recorded a noise level of between 60dB to 64dB, and on the higher speed setting I recorded a noise level of between 70dB to 74dB.
Final Thoughts
The Braun MultiQuick 9 is a powerful and versatile addition to the kitchen culinary arsenal. Within seconds, I have smoothed out vegetables into a soup and whisked beautifully silky cake batter. It is mega loud when crushing ice but this isn’t isolated to the Braun. For example, I found the KitchenAid Power Blender even louder when I crushed ice with it.
Granted, £132.99 for it is an investment. For all of the above reasons, I think it is an investment worth having.
