Watch out NASA, this Minecraft player just built the entire universe

Watch out NASA, this Minecraft player just built the entire universe
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In an extraordinary achievement, a Minecraft player has created an entire universe, with planets, solar system, black holes and more. NASA better watch out.

The popular cross-platform sandbox video game Minecraft, where people can explore the world, fight enemies and rule a kingdom, also has another cool game mode. Known as the creative mode, it allows players to build their own world. Whether they want to create mountains and valleys or an urban setting, they can use the full extent of their imagination. But one build perhaps not many have tried their hands on is building the entire universe. After all, even NASA has only been able to observe just a fraction of the universe after decades of exploration. But a YouTuber took on this challenge and completed it, all under two months.

YouTuber Christopher Slayton, better known by his username ChrisDaCow, took on the impossible task of recreating the entire universe, filled with planets, stars, galaxies, black holes and more, block by block on Minecraft. Slayton is a gamer but he has never been interested in any game outside of Minecraft. His Instagram, Reddit, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube accounts are all focused on his Minecraft content. He specializes in making fun and unique builds, but perhaps even he underestimated the scale of this build.

YouTuber builds the entire universe in a Minecraft build

He shared a video on YouTube showcasing his build and highlighting the process he followed. He started with just building the Earth and spent nearly a day working on it. To make it accurate, he measured a globe and took out the size of different continents, oceans and the poles. He replicated them with accuracy and also figured out the way to add glow to one side, giving the impression of day and night.

After looking at NASA images of the solar system, pillars of creation, black holes and galaxies, he one by one built all of them into his version of the universe. While Slayton was not able to put every single piece of the universe into his build, he tried to get all the major structures. He was not the first one to attempt it, but he claims that his level of meticulousness was probably the first. He even ensured that the size of Africa on Earth was exactly the same as it shows on the globe.

“Everyone freaks out about the power and expansiveness of the universe, which I never really got that much. I realized even more how beautiful it is. It’s really satisfying to be able to fly through some galaxies or look at a black hole, not through just the movie Interstellar or something like that,” Slayton told The New York Times.
