An exceptionally well priced hedge trimmer, the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer packs in a 51cm blade, a battery and charger. It’s a little slow at cutting, particularly with thicker branches, but for smaller gardens and hedges it’s a bargain.

The Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer is almost insanely cheap, considering you get a battery and charger included in the box. While that might raise some eyebrows as to the quality of the product, I found it well made, and surprisingly powerful for the price.
I wouldn’t want to hack through a lot of thicker branches with this hedge trimmer, but for lighter jobs, the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer is very good value.

Cordless tools tend to be a bit more expensive than their plug-in counterparts, but the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer doesn’t carry that premium. That would be impressive for a barebones tool, but this package includes a 2Ah 20V battery and charger in the box.
The charger clips on to the end of the battery, which is usually the signs of a slow charger, but the battery can be topped up and ready to go in an hour. Other G Series tools from Vonhaus can be used with the battery and you can reuse any other batteries you have, including the larger 4Ah battery available for £44.99.
The battery includes a three-LED battery meter, accessed by hitting the button on the back. That make it easy to get a quick battery reading while using the hedge trimmer, although the green LEDs are quite hard to see in full daylight, and I had to cover the lights with my hand to see them.
Although cheap, the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer still feels quite robust, with a sturdy body.
I did find that the spring in the trigger at the rear handle made quite a noise when the trigger is depressed, but a solid click tells you when you’ve applied enough pressure.
For safety, the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer can only be operated when the rear trigger is depressed along with the secondary switch located on the front handle. This secondary switch is looped around the entire front handle, so it’s easy to use the hedge trimmer no matter which angle you hold it at.
There is no on/off button and the battery can’t be locked into a safety position, as with the Stihl HSA 60 Battery Hedge Trimmer. For those reasons, when transporting or storing the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer I recommend removing the battery, which pulls out of the back of the unit.
There is a scabbard to cover the 51cm blade, which has teeth with a cutting diameter of 14mm. This scabbard locks into place well and has an eyelet for hanging the tool when not in use.
At just 2.8kg, this hedge trimmer is very light, which makes it easy to wield. The 51cm cutting length is a good compromise between weight and working speed. This length of blade should suit most jobs in a smaller garden.

I set the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer on a few jobs around the garden, starting with cutting my hedge at the front. Although not as fast as rivals, such as the Husqvarna 215iHD45, this hedge trimmer managed to cut through standard branches with ease.
The overall result wasn’t quite as neat as with other hedge trimmers that I’ve reviewed, but this trimmer is good for lighter and smaller jobs.
Its 51cm cutting length made sure I could reach from top to bottom of my hedge, while the light body made it easy to trim the tops of hedges. However, the deeper parts of my hedge were out of reach, so a longer trimmer or a pole trimmer would be a better choice.
I also tried the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer out on a conifer tree that was protruding onto the path. I could cut branches up to 14mm in diameter, although the job was a bit slower here than with the Stihl HSA 60.
I measured the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer outside at 93.4dB, which is a touch louder than rival hedge trimmers. You’ll be fine without ear defenders, but there are quieter tools that might be better in more enclosed environments.
Battery life is up to an hour, which is good compared to rivals. That said, I found that the Vonhaus G-Series Cordless Hedge Trimmer cut slower than with the high-power rivals, so that hour wouldn’t get me quite as far. I think it would take a couple of charges to fully cut my ~25m hedge.
