The 15 Most Unforgettable Looks From Cannes
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Cannes Festival jury led by Greta Gerwig announced its winners this weekend, including the Palme d’Or for “Anora,” a comedy from the American filmmaker Sean Baker about a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch. The ceremony concluded 10 full days filled with movies and long ovations, news conferences peppered with politics, a filmmaker’s return, women-led films that caused a stir, a president’s origin story and, of course, canine stars.

But the Côte d’Azur’s red carpet proved also to be a bonanza, where stars upped the ante on style, wearing bright swaths of color, statement hats that canceled out the need for any SPF — and baring skin, lots of it. Here, 15 looks worth remembering.

Anya Taylor-Joy: Most Flapper!

The star of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” wore an updated flapper style in her Jil Sander skirt suit. The actress mixed a cropped jacket, shag skirt and fringe with a delicate heel and dramatic eyes to pull off an elegant yet understated look.

Natasha Poly: Most Strategic!

The model strode confidently down the red carpet in this corseted Mugler dress at the “Emilia Pérez” premiere, covering just enough.

Alton Mason: Most Shoulders, Knees and Toes!

The actor and model, who made an appearance at the premiere of Francis Ford Coppola’s highly anticipated film, “Megalopolis,” didn’t miss a beat from top to bottom, with this patterned power-shouldered Louis Gabriel Nouchi suit.

Yseult: Most Accessorized!

Chic doesn’t begin to describe the way the French singer-songwriter/model finished off this custom turn of Christian Dior’s “New Look” at the premiere of “Megalopolis.” The icing on the cake: the tilted straw hat, sharp leather gloves and black kitten heels.

The most famous torso in punk rock does not need much to make a statement.

Margaret Qualley: Most Hat!

Who needs sunscreen when you can make a hat this big look as elegant as the actress did paired with her simple Chanel dress? She debuted two films, “The Substance” and “Kinds of Kindness.”

Lily Gladstone: Most Golden!

The actress, who made her Cannes debut last year with a star turn in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and became a juror this year, glowed in this off-the-shoulder Balenciaga gown.

Michelle Yeoh: Most Plumed!

Spring has sprung, or at least has been plucked. The Oscar-winning actress topped her Bottega Veneta gown with sharp new bangs.

Winnie Harlow: Most Cowgirl!

Tweed, mesh, fringe, pearls, lattice! With this many elements the model did not disappoint, by taking a trend and making it all her own in this ensemble from Tamara Ralph.

Colman Domingo: Most Patterned Monotone!

A perfect outfit for lunch at the beach, the actor’s light-patterned Amiri suit sent a refined message, with a peek of orange tassel at the hem.

Renate Reinsve: Most Sheer Train!

The Norwegian actress, who won the best actress award at the festival three years ago for “The Worst Person in the World,” sparkled in this Louis Vuitton silver and sheer black confection.

Sebastian Stan: Most Blazer!

A bright yellow Amiri blazer gave the actor, who plays a young Donald Trump in the buzzy film “The Apprentice,” a studied but easy look.

Selena Gomez: Most Classic!

Let’s not forget, this is one of the most famous film festivals in the world! And the actress/pop star gave Cannes its due in this polished Saint Laurent evening gown, dripping diamonds included.

Naomi Campbell: Most Archival!

One of the most famous models in the world also knew how to make a fashion statement: Ms. Campbell donned a Chanel couture gown she wore walking the runway 30 years ago.

Nicolas Seydoux: Most Caped!

The French producer and executive topped off a black tuxedo with a sleeveless cape embellished with a floral flash of pink that gave a touch of fun, whimsy and class.
