We had the good fortune of connecting with business owner Rich Williams of Coldwell Banker Richwill Realty located in Davenport, FL and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rich, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision I made was believing in myself. We hear this statement often but it came down to if there was anyone or anything I would bet on, it had to be me. I was my “safest” bet.
What should our readers know about your business?
First and foremost I am an Entrepreneur. I am currently the Broker of Coldwell Banker Richwill Realty. We offer real estate services throughout Central Florida. What sets us apart is the mentorship that we offer with other like-minded individuals wanting to not only grow as a business but as a person. It’s a blessing to see others come into the business and branch off to make their dreams a reality.
Getting to where I am today was not easy. Challenges included being new to an industry, limited prospects and more. I was able to overcome them through educating myself on the industry daily. Talking to those who were more experienced and willing to share. As I gained the knowledge, confidence came. Later leading to the trust every client requires.
The lessons I learned along the way are to allow today to take its shape. So many times we can’t move forward because of the past. Leave yesterday behind. Yes, learn yesterday’s lessons but understand every new day comes with a new opportunity. What are you going to make of yourself, “today!” The next lesson is failing is not always bad. There are some valuable lessons learned through failure. I don’t think I would be where I am without them happening.
My story is about how a simple dream can be experienced in everyone’s life no matter how big or small. Don’t count yourself out!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was in the area we would be on a road trip. First, we’d be in Miami at a few Heat games and later hanging out at Las Olas. Next we’ll travel to Clearwater for the beaches before we head over to Orlando for Disney & Universal. Last, we’ll end in St. Augustine and Jacksonville for some golf and a few seafood restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The credit goes to my mother who passed away in 2019 with cancer. She was from a family of 14 and the youngest. After leaving her homeland of Trinidad she started her own family in Miami. With no high school diploma I watched her go to work for the same employer for over 20+ years while supporting her family. After work and on the weekends she would sew clothing as a part time job. This is where I experienced her entrepreneurial spirit. She always had a positive attitude and was uplifting to many. The lesson taken away was, “you are enough.” Start with what you have and work your way up.
