Design and Features

An update to the Eufy Omni S1, the first robot vacuum cleaner that I saw to use a roller rather than a mop, the Eufy Omni S2 is a more powerful, more feature-packed version. Externally, the two robots look very similar, as does the dock.

While most docking stations are squat and fat, the S2’s is tall and thin, with a clear 2.5L water tank on top for clean water. As with the S1, this tank uses ozone to sterilise the water for deeper cleaning.

There’s then a 1.8-litre tank for dirty water. Given that some water ends up on the floor while mopping, I tend to fill the clean tank at the same time as emptying the dirty one.

This docking station also takes Eufy’s hard-floor cleaning solution. This has to be Eufy’s cleaning solution, as you plug in the physical container. That’s a shame, as you can’t use an alternative hard floor cleaner, adding it to a tank, as you can with the Roborock Saros 20.

Dust is sucked from the robot into the 3L bag, which is hidden under a flap, under where the water tanks go. That’s quite a disassembly job to get to the bag, but at this size you shouldn’t need to empty the bin more than once every couple of months.

Externally, the physical robot looks similar to the older S1: a rounded square, rather than the more common circular design that I see everywhere else.

There’s no LiDAR dome on top, so the robot is just 98mm high, letting it slip under most sofas and sideboards with ease.

In addition to the navigation sensors at the front, there’s a camera, which is used for AI obstacle avoidance.

There’s a bin in the robot, accessible by removing the top panel. This bin won’t need to be emptied manually, but it contains a filter that needs washing regularly, and you’ll also want to replace it when the app tells you to.

Also under the cover is the spot for the fragrance pods. A diffuser system releases a scent as the robot moves around.

Eufy provides a choice of three scents in the box, each of which should last three months.

When you’ve found a favourite, a box of three replacements costs £24.99, and you can only use Eufy ones. That’s quite expensive. 

The scent is very light, too. There’s a gentle smell that slowly fills the room, but it’s not as noticeable as the burst of scent you get from one of Shark’s Anti-Odour Cartridges, as fitted to the Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal RV3000XEUK.

Interestingly, the cover is slightly see-through, so you can see the robot in action as it goes about its business.

Flip the Eufy Omni S2 over, and the layout is what you might expect, with some nice touches. It’s good to have two side brushes, one of which can swing out for edge cleaning.

There’s a split roller in the middle, with the ideal that hair wraps around the brushes but is then pushed towards the middle where it’s sucked up into the bin, without tangling.

Dominating the rear is the wide roller, which is almost the full width of the robot. This roller uses the HydroJet 2.0 self-cleaning system: fresh water is added to the roller, and then dirty water is pulled off into a tank, so there’s no danger of dragging stains around the floor. This mop can extend out the side for edge cleaning.

When carpet is detected, the roller can lift 5cm from the ground, which is enough to deal with most short-pile carpets. If you’ve got deeper carpets, you may prefer a robot that can drop its mopping pads, or that can block its roller off, such as the Dreame Aqua10 Ultra Roller Complete.

The robot is controlled through the Eufy app, which is now home to all of the company’s products, including cleaning and security cameras. 

Once connected to Wi-Fi, the Eufy Omni S2 needs to go on a mapping run, which is quick to complete. Once done, there’s a map with suggested rooms, but it’s easy to split or merge them to get the layout you want, add carpet, put in no-go areas, and even add furniture.

For the latter, I couldn’t select the sofa that I’d put down as a quick zone, so furniture seems to be more for show than a more practical purpose.

For cleaning, you can select to clean your home, a room, or a zone (or zones) of your choice. That’s pretty straightforward.

Once you’ve selected where to clean, you can choose how to clean. There’s an AI mode that will automatically clean for you, but you can override and choose to vacuum and mop, or vacuum only. There’s no mop-only mode, which seems like an oversight.

For both modes, you can choose the cleaning intensity (how tightly the robot turns to cover the area), the water level (three choices) and the suction power (four choices). There’s a choice of one or two passes, too.

Dive into the advanced settings, and there’s a bit more control over how the robot moves, including the areas it will try and get under. There’s also Dirty Spot Cleaning, where the Eufy Omni S2 will focus on any stains it’s spotted, giving them an extra clean.

I sent the Eufy Omni S2 out cleaning around the Trusted Reviews Home Technology Lab. I began with my carpet test, with a teaspoon of flour sprinkled on it. Thanks to the 30,000Pa suction power, the robot made very short work of this, sucking up everything to leave the carpet looking very clean. You don’t get better than this.

It was the same with dirt in the middle of the hard floor, with everything collected without leaving a trace behind. 

With the edge test, the results were slightly less impressive. The side brushes couldn’t tease all the mess out, so quite a bit was left behind.

However, I repeated the test with the mop, and the results were much better.

I then moved on to the mopping tests. My coffee stain was gone in two passes, which is good to see.

Similarly, the red wine stain was also gone after two passes, which is impressive.

My mud stain consists of the ground-in mess and some solids. The latter was removed by the vacuum, and the former was cleaned in two passes by the mop. 

My toughest test is the dried-on ketchup stain. Given the very hot weather, this had dried near-on solid, and two passes just took a bit of the mess away. 

I gave the mess a spray with kitchen cleaner to help loosen it, and then sent the Eufy Omni S2 back over it, where it got most, but not all of the mess. It’s a good performance on a very tough stain, but the Saros 20 did do better on this test.

I finished off by adding human hair to the carpet and then letting the Eufy Omni S2 pick it up. Flipping it over, there were no hairs caught around the brush roll.

I measured sound at a reasonable 61.2dB (loud enough to hear, not loud enough to be annoying).

Battery life is also excellent. The Eufy Omni S2 could cover the entire Lab (similar size to a regular home) with two passes, leaving enough power for spot jobs.

Navigation is also very good, and the Eufy Omni S2 moved around my fake pet mess, shoes and cables with ease, and never got trapped.
