Representative Kevin Hern of Oklahoma won the Republican nomination for Senate on Tuesday, according to The Associated Press.
In a deeply conservative state, Mr. Hern’s victory means that he is overwhelmingly likely to be elected in November. The contest opened when Senator Markwayne Mullin was picked to replace Kristi Noem as the Homeland Security secretary in March.
Gov. Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma selected Alan Armstrong, an oil and gas executive, to serve out the remainder of Mr. Mullin’s term until January 2027. State law required Mr. Armstrong to pledge not to run for a full six-year term.
A host of candidates also entered the contest for a full term, including a country music singer and a firefighter, but Mr. Hern was best known and had President Trump’s endorsement.
A four-term representative in the Tulsa area, Mr. Hern was a businessman and McDonald’s franchisee before turning to politics in 2018.
