Husqvarna Aspire B8X-P4A Review

Verdict

Comfortable to use, very well built and very powerful when needed, the Husqvarna Aspire B8X-P4A is a great leaf blower. Its 18V battery is a touch short on battery life, but if you need a leaf blower for a small-to-medium-sized space, there are few better than this.

  • Powerful

  • Batteries compatible with tools from other manufacturers

  • Very comfortable

  • No variable speed trigger

  • Modest run time

Key Features

Introduction

Joining Husqvarna’s brilliant Aspire range of garden power tools is the B8X-P4A leaf blower. An 18V leaf blower, it has been designed with compact storage and ease of use in mind, providing plenty of power for most garden jobs.

Design and Features

  • Sleek grey and black design with intuitive controls
  • Three air speeds to choose from
  • Compatible with POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE batteries

The B8X-p4A is solidly built and well-designed for comfort. Like the other Aspire range tools, the dark grey body is handsomely understated, and all the bits you need to interact with are bright orange.

The handle is really comfortable. It’s nicely rubberised and angled just right, making it easy to hang on to.

Holding the leaf blower is made easier by the fact that it weighs 2.7kg with the battery in place. The large trigger is easy enough to operate with big hands wearing gardening gloves, but it’s just a simple on/off switch. I prefer a variable speed trigger, but changing the blowing speed is easy enough.

Above the trigger is a neat control panel that shows you the current charge level in three steps. Next to that is a soft-touch switch for power and another that lets you cycle through three air flow levels.

The front tube pops off easily, allowing for both easy storage and up-close blowing when extra reach isn’t necessary. And another feature I find handy with the Aspire range is the included tool hook. It feels premium and is compatible with the clever Husqvarna storage rail.

Something I really like about the Aspire range is that they use the POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE batteries. One of the few tool companies to share batteries, you can use them in products from Bosch, Gardena, Flymo, and more.

The blower comes with a 4.0Ah 18 Volt battery and a fast 60-minute charger.

Performance

  • Impressive blowing speed on full power
  • Comfortable to use over long periods
  • Battery doesn’t last for long on full power

Setting up this blower is a piece of cake. And incidentally, it’s really well presented with a pleasant unboxing experience too. All I had to do was click the extension nozzle into place

Using the B8X in the garden is a joy. It’s light enough to be easy to point around, and the handle grip makes it comfortable to hang on to.

On full power, there’s more than enough wind speed to blast wet leaves off patio slabs. And there’s enough power on level 2 to blow drifts of freshly fallen camellia flowers from the lawn. Power level 1 is ideal for light duty jobs, or when you want to squeeze the last few minutes of work from the battery.

I was also impressed with this blower’s top speed of 11m/s measured from a metre away, making it quick to use to clean up leaves and other light debris. Although not as powerful as the big EGO LB6700E blower, it makes up for it by being powerful enough and light enough at the same time.

I managed less than 30 minutes of leaf blowing with the included battery. It’s to be expected, and it’s plenty of time to tidy a small to medium-sized garden anyway. And seeing as it’s a POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE battery tool, you could swap the battery with a range of different brands.

Should you buy it?

You want a light and comfortable leaf blower that still packs a punch

And if you already own POWER FOR ALL ALLIANCE tools from Husqvarna, Bosch, Gardena, or Flymo, it’s an easy decision to make.

You have a large garden and need maximum run time from your leaf blower

The B8X-P4A is more useful as a lightweight and manoeuvrable blower.

Final Thoughts

This is a polished and practical leaf blower that runs on a versatile battery system. Light enough at less than 3kg, and with three speed settings to choose from, it has a capable power-to-weight ratio. It’s also very simple to stow away thanks to the Aspire tool hook that comes with it. Overall, this is an excellent leaf blower but if you do need something a bit more powerful, then check out the guide to the best leaf blowers.
