Verdict
A versatile tool, the Shark EveryMess can vacuum up dry dirt (including sharp pieces), liquid spills and, via the spray detergent, even tackle spot stains. It’s a little more limited for stain cleaning than a regular spot cleaner, where the larger tank can cover a bigger area, but for smaller jobs it’s brilliant. If you need a vacuum that can handle everything from DIY mess to a smashed glass and the odd stain, it’s a great tool.

Introduction
More than just a spot cleaner, the Shark EveryMess is also a portable wet and dry vacuum cleaner, too. This makes it exceptionally flexible and the only product of its type that I’ve reviewed.
Its spot cleaning is slightly limited, so read on to find out if this product is for you.
Design and Features
- Used with or without a bag
- Cleaning solution provided
- Good selection of tools
Externally, the Shark EveryMess looks much like other spot cleaners, such as the Shark StainStriker HairPro Pet Stain & Spot Cleaner PX250UKT.
Indeed, there’s a 1.5m hose that clips into the side, and then wraps around the cleaner’s body for storage.
On top, there’s a 6m power cable, which wraps around the handle. Combined, the power cable and hose give a decent cleaning radius from a single power plug.
Look a little more closely, and the differences between the Shark EveryMess and regular spot cleaners start to become more obvious
First, there’s no clean water tank for detergent. Instead, for cleaning stains, the EveryMess uses a bottle of Shark’s StainForce solution, which comes with a spray head. This solution costs £14.99 to replace, although you can get two for £24.99. It’s the same cleaning solution as used with the cordless Shark StainForce Cordless Stain-Destroying Spot Cleaner HX100UKT.

This solution works very well (see the Performance section for more details), but the downside is that it won’t cover as big an area as a tank of detergent in a regular spot washer. Think of this as more of a tool for dealing with fresh spills, such as a pet mess or a knocked-over glass of wine, rather than something for cleaning a sofa.
For regular stains, there’s a Tough Stain Tool, which has bristles on one side for agitating mess on most surfaces, and a side with Hair Gripping Fins for removing hair without tangling in the brush.
When used like this, the Shark EveryMess is much like other spot cleaners, and this tool can be used to suck up any liquid first, before scrubbing in the cleaning solution and extracting the stain.

It’s easy to use, too. There’s a single power button on top to turn the vacuum on, and there’s just a single power mode.

Thanks to the clean cover on top, I could see when moisture was being sucked up, and how clean it looked.

As the hose doesn’t weigh very much, it’s not tiring to use the EveryMess for long periods; the cordless StainForce is a little heavy in the hand after prolonged use.
Wet mess is sucked up and deposited inside the main tank, which holds 2.2-litres of liquids. Opening the top of the EveryMess starts to highlight the differences between this and regular spot cleaners.

Inside the cavity, the tank is open and simply pulls out for cleaning, along with the water filter and float that can be removed for cleaning.

Next to this, there are also two washable filters (one fabric, and one foam), which are there because the EveryMess is also a regular wet and dry vacuum cleaner.

To this end, there are two more tools: a crevice tool for dry vacuuming (although you can just use the end of the hose), and a squeegee tool for dealing with liquid spills.

All three provided tools fit into the handy tool storage clip at the end of the EveryMess, so I could carry them around with me.

All of the mess (dry or wet), gets sucked into the main bin, and the beauty of the system is that the EveryMess can suck up, well, everything. Knock over a plant pot? Don’t worry, the wet soil can get sucked up. Smashed a wine glass? No worries, suck up the liquid and broken glass, and you’re done. I also found the EveryMess handy for cleaning out the fireplace, as the ash can block a regular vacuum cleaner.
Everything sucked up goes into the bin. For mixed waste or sharp objects, just use the bin as it is. If you’re just sucking up dirty mess, then the EveryMess can be used with a regular trash bag (8-litres to 50-litres) in size, clipping the bag in place via the slot on the front.

That’s very handy with some messes, such as sucking up DIY mess at the end of a session, as the bag can be removed and thrown away.
In dust-only mode, the bin can hold up to 3.5-litres of mess, which is a lot compared to most regular vacuum cleaners. It’s enough for most DIY jobs, too, and the compact EveryMess is easier to store than a regular wet and dry vacuum cleaner, too.
Cleaning the bin under a tap is easy, but it’s also dishwasher safe if you want to give it a thorough clean.
With the spot cleaning tool, you can clean this by filling a cup with water, and then immersing the cleaner in it, sucking the fresh water through the system.
Performance
- Strong suction
- Cleans stains well
I tried the Shark EveryMess out on a variety of spills to see how well it did. It works well on general messes, no matter how dirty, and I found it useful for cleaning out a fireplace.
Its crevice tool is also useful for getting started with some messes. With my mud test, I’d normally need to vacuum the dust first, before tackling the solution. With the EveryMess, I used the crevice tool first.

This sucked up the loose dirt, which greatly reduced the stain.
I then used the spray solution on the mud stain, leaving it to soak for a few minutes, before sucking up the mess and completely removing the stain from the carpet.
I really like Shark’s StainForce detergent. Spraying it onto my red wine spill, the stain dissolved in front of my eyes, and I quickly sucked up the mess, leaving the carpet looking completely fresh.
At the end of cleaning, I measured humidity in the carpet at 24%, which is a touch higher than I’ve got from a more powerful spot cleaner, such as the Vax SpotWash Max Pet-Design. Even so, the carpet was dry within a couple of hours of cleaning.
With wet spills, the EveryMess does a great job. Fresh ketchup on the floor was no problem, with the squeegee helping get all of the mess out, pulling the stain off the floor.

After a few gentle swipes in either direction, the mess was gone, and the floor was back to its best.
I measured the Shark EveryMess at 80.5dB, so it’s not particularly quiet. I try and place the vacuum unit as far from me as possible, stretching the hose out.
Should you buy it?
Able to vacuum up any kind of wet or dry mess, with the added bonus of being able to tackle stains, this is a flexible tool.
You need to clean a larger area
If you need to clean a larger area, such as all of your stairs or a sofa, then a regular spot cleaner may be better.
Final Thoughts
Whether the Shark EveryMess is for you depends on what you want. For just cleaning the occasional spot, the Shark StainForce Cordless is simpler to use. If you want to tackle larger areas, such as an entire sofa, then a regular spot cleaner is best.
However, if you want to deal with dirty messes, liquid spills and even sharp objects, then the Shark EveryMess is great for everything from DIY mess to a broken wine glass and a pet stain on the carpet.

FAQs
You can use any trash bag, provided it doesn’t have holes. Bags shouldn’t be used when vacuuming up sharp debris.
Yes you can, although the StainForce solution is formulated to work as just a spray, and is designed to be sucked up after use, so you may find that alternatives aren’t qutie as effective.
