Dreamland Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw Review
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A very warm heated throw

Super-warm, the Dreamland Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw is capable of getting hot very quickly. It needs a bit of management to get the right heat level, but if you get very cold and want a cheap way to stay warm, this heated throw is brilliant.

  • Heats very fast

  • Gets very warm

  • Comfortable for one person

  • Slightly basic remote

  • Not quite big enough for a double bed

Key Features

  • Review Price: £129.99

  • Six heat settings

Split between continous use and fast heating.

  • Machine washable

Wash in a washing machine and dry in a tumble dryer.

  • Timer

Select between one, three or nine hours.

Introduction

Heated underblankets are great for when you’re sleeping, but they’re locked in place and aren’t much good around the house.

That’s where a product like the Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw comes in, as you can place it over yourself while you’re sitting on the sofa, and even use it on top of you while you sleep.

Fast heat-up times combined with low running costs make this a great single-person throw. Slightly more customisable controls would be ideal.

Design and features

  • Machine washable and tumble dryer safe
  • Basic remote
  • Thick material

I’ve got the Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw with the Alaskan Husky print, although Dreamland has a wide range of other finishes, both in faux fur and more traditional fabrics.

As a throw, the Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw feels nice. Its finish is soft to the touch, and it feels nice to have it lying over the top or wrapped around me.

With a hand underneath, the heating wires that criss-cross through the fabric can be felt through the inner lining, but you can’t feel them in normal use. That’s the advantage of a throw compared to some heated underblankets. With the latter, lying down on them can mean that you feel the heating wires pressing into your body.

At 160x120cm, the Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw is ideal for a one person, although you can just about fit two underneath if you’re happy to snuggle up. It doesn’t quite cover a double bed.

Controls plug into the side of the throw and, according to the manual, the input plug should be at the bottom right. There’s then a controller connected to a 3m power cable for control of the blanket.

It’s a rather simplistic controller with six heating modes, cycled through by pressing the temperature button.

The manual describes setting six as a fast pre-heat, and settings four and five as medium pre-heat. After waiting for the blanket to warm, settings one to three should be used for continuous use.

There’s also a timer, which has to be used, with a choice of one, three or nine hours. I guess that covers the basics, but a controller with a timer that has hourly increments would be better.

For safety, the Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw has overheat protection, and the blanket will shut down if it overheats. To avoid overheating issues, you shouldn’t sit on the blanket.

All blankets can get dirty, but the Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw can be machine washed at 30°C, once the controller has been detached. And, it’s tumble dryer safe, so you can have a quick turnaround.

Performance

  • Heats very fast
  • Cheap to run

I found that the Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw heated quickly. Dreamland promises a five-minute warm-up time, and that’s right. I found that pre-heating setting five was generally best for me, although for very cold evenings I’d use the highest setting.

Heat starts to come through almost immediately, with even heat across the blanket. Once it feels warm enough, I’d turn the heat down. Very cold nights needed setting three, but for slightly warmer evenings, I’d go with setting two.

In the thermal image below, you can see how the wires criss-cross through the blanket, creating a lot of concentrated heat across it, although the bottom, where the power comes in, is slightly warmer.

Once warmed up, the lower settings keep the blanket at the right temperature, and I found that I could sit in a cold, draughty Victorian lounge without feeling cold.

I measured power use at a maximum of 180W to pre-heat the throw on setting six, but this power level only lasts a few minutes. Down to setting three, power fluctuates, peaking at 100W, but mostly settling within the 30-50W range, while the blanket maintains temperature.

After an hour, a total of 0.05kWh had been consumed, which works out at just over 1p at the current price cap of 28p per kWh. That’s a very cheap way to keep yourself warm, especially compared to an electric heater or traditional central heating.

Should you buy it?

You want a heated throw that gets very warm

Very quick to heat and very warm on maximum, this is ideal for those that feel the cold.

You want something larger

If you want a throw to cover a bed or two people, look elsewhere.

Final Thoughts

Fast heat-up times, good heat retention and low running costs make the Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw a winner for anyone who wants personal warming.

Those who need a blanket to cover more than one person might want to look elsewhere, as should anyone who wants slightly better timer control. However, for an individual, this heated throw works brilliantly and is easy to use around the house.
