Taylor Swift’s 10th studio LP, “Midnights,” was released on Friday and quickly became this year’s best-selling album. Swift is the rare pop star who is emerging from the pandemic era just as strong as she began it — there still appears to be endless appetite for her intimate storytelling.
But Swift is also approaching a career crossroads, working with the same producers as she has in the past and exploring familiar sonic ideas. She has previously made albums that felt lightly risky, but it’s unclear whether those were outliers, or tentative steps that she’s now pulling back from.
