SAN FELICE DEL BENACO, ITALY — On October 17, the peaceful town of San Felice del Benaco, overlooking the shores of Lake Garda, welcomed a distinguished delegation from Georgia’s Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. The visit served as an opportunity to share perspectives on innovation, science, and cultural appreciation between Italian and American representatives.
The meeting was hosted by MAGI Group, an Italian biomedical research institution recognized for its work in genetics and preventive medicine, and its U.S.-based affiliate MAGISNAT, headquartered at Atlanta Tech Park in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. Both organizations were founded by Dr. Matteo Bertelli, a San Felice native committed to connecting Italian scientific excellence with international innovation networks.
“This exchange reflects a shared commitment to advancing knowledge and promoting collaboration across communities,” said Dr. Bertelli.
A Visit Focused on Dialogue and Discovery
The American delegation, led by Nick Masino, President and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, included more than 20 business leaders from sectors such as healthcare, technology, and finance. Their visit to San Felice followed institutional meetings in Milan but carried special meaning given the town’s deep cultural and scientific identity.

During the day, the delegation toured the MAGI Biomedical Research Center, where Italian scientists shared insights into ongoing research in genomics, nutraceuticals, and molecular diagnostics. The atmosphere was one of curiosity and exchange, emphasizing mutual respect and future opportunities for dialogue.
Leadership Rooted in Heritage
Mayor Marzia Manovali welcomed the guests on behalf of the local community. Known for her efforts to promote sustainable tourism and regional development, the Mayor highlighted the town’s heritage in olive oil and wine production, as well as its artistic legacy — including sculptor Angelo Zanelli, creator of the “Altare della Patria” monument in Rome.
“Innovation can flourish anywhere, especially when it grows from a strong cultural foundation,” said Mayor Manovali.
Cultural Highlights and Shared Values
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the Rocca di Manerba del Garda, a historic archaeological site offering panoramic views of the lake. Under the guidance of Dr. Simone Don, Councilor Raffaella Bertini, and Dr. Carla Ghidinelli, the group explored artifacts spanning prehistoric to medieval times, underscoring the enduring connection between history and human progress.
As the day came to a close, the visit stood as a gesture of goodwill and mutual appreciation — an example of how scientific and cultural encounters can build lasting understanding across continents.
