Dreame Pet Air Purifier FP10 Review

Verdict

If I had to describe the Dreame Pet Air Purifier FP10 in one word, that word would be: impressive. At this point, I’ve tested close to 100 air purifiers, and most don’t leave a lasting impression. However, the performance of the Dreame FP10 – along with its many bells and whistles – makes it stand out in the crowded air purifier field. From the Dreame FP10’s stylish design, to the four-stage filtration process, to the self-cleaning roller, to the convenient tabletop, the Dream FP10 is quite impressive.

  • Self-cleaning roller

  • App and voice control

  • Tabletop design

  • Pet friendly

  • Light serves as a night light

  • Controls not in the most convenient location

  • Heavy, with no handles

Key Features

Introduction

If you’re not familiar with Dreame Technology, trust me, you will be. The company started out making cordless stick vacuums, and then, wet dry vacuums, like the Dreame Aero Pro Wet Dry Vacuum Mop, along with robot vacuums, like the Dreame Matrix 10 Ultra. Now, Dreame is also making a variety of other products, including laundry robots and refrigerators, smartphones, and even automobiles.

Whether Dreame will be successful in all of these wide-ranging categories remains to be seen. However, the company has done quite well with the Dreame FP10. Keep reading to discover what makes this air purifier so impressive.

Design and features

  • Gorgeous design
  • Onboard controls hard to see
  • Rollerbrush cleaning

The Dreame FP10 arrived in a brown cardboard box, and inside of that, a branded box. The air purifier was securely packaged to preserve it from any damage during the shipping process.

The Dreame FP10 ships with a user manual and a power cord. I actually prefer detachable power cords, because they make it easier to store appliances and devices when not in use. The air purifier consists of the main unit, and on top of that, the fan unit.

The top cover sits on the fan unit. The top cover is made of a soft, fabric material, and like the Blueair Blue Signature Air Purifier, I can place lightweight items on the top. If you’re a pet owner, the top is also designed to let cats jump on and perch on it without toppling the air purifier. There’s also an option to purchase a pet weighing tray that can be used with pets up to 16 pounds.

I love the design of the air purifier. The neutral colorway and modern design blend seamlessly in my home. The glowing light is soft, and serves as a night light when the ceiling lights and lamps are off.  The air purifier also has an anti-tip design, which is helpful if you have pets or toddlers. The cord is also bite-resistant, great if you have pets and toddlers who try to put anything in their mouth that will fit.

The Dreame FP10 is considered a large air purifier – 24 inches in height, and 13 inches in diameter – and weighs 19.84 pounds. There’s no type of carry handle, so I had to pick the air purifier up from the bottom whenever I needed to move it to another location. However, I love the circular design, which fits in tight spaces.

The air purifier has a four-stage filtration process: the primary filter is designed to capture pet hair, pet dander and dust; the HEPA filter is designed to remove PM0.3 particles and allergens; the odor-lock layer contains carbon to capture odors; the odor removal layer is designed to chemically decompose odors.

One unique feature is the dual-powered roller brush and filter dust box/hair collection chamber. When activated in the app, the roller brush removes dust and hair from the primary filter, and deposits this debris into the chamber. This self-cleaning process takes around 30 seconds.

When the chamber is full, you’ll get a full chamber alert. Merely remove the hair collection chamber from the air purifier, and then open the chamber and dispose of the hair. Since I don’t have pets (and I have short hair), over the course of a month, there was never any hair on the chamber or on the primary filter.

An added bonus is that the hair collection chamber also keeps the primary filter clean – so it doesn’t need to be cleaned itself, and never needs to be replaced. However, the compound filter inside of the primary filter will need to be replaced, and currently retails for $79.

The air purifier has onboard controls – and one of my few complaints surface in this area. From left to right, there and lights/icons for the 3 fan speeds (high, medium, and low), silent, lighting (three levels of brightness), child lock, on/off, air quality, air pollution alert, and modes (Auto AI, pet, sleep, and custom).

The problem with the onboard controls is that they’re hard to see, since they’re located under the top – which also creates a shadow. Whether in the kitchen, bedrooms, or living area, even with the my ceiling lights on, the icons on the controls are hard to see unless I bend over to look closer.

Fortunately, the Dreame app makes the air purifier easy to use. Initially, I wasn’t able to connect. because I’m on a 5GHz network, and the air purifier can only connect to the 2.4GHz network, so, I called my cable/internet provider for help.

After connecting to the app, there’s a tutorial to walk me through the Dream FP10’s features, along with an option to skip the tutorial.

When clicking on the Outdoor tab, the app shows the air quality in my city, as well as the temperature and humidity. At the bottom of that page, it displays the PM2.5 data and PM10 data.

Under the indoor tab, the app also shows the temperature and humidity. However, it also shows more detailed PM2.5 and PM10 data, along with TVOC data. I can also turn the air purifier on and off, select modes, and view the filter life status. And compared to the 3 fan speeds available on the onboard controls, there are 10 speeds on the app. Also, If you purchase a smart top perch, there’s a section for managing the smart platform as well.

The air purifier can also be controlled using Alexa and Google Assistant.

Performance

  • Auto AI mode is excellent
  • Four-stage filtration process removes irritants and odors
  • App controls are easy to use

In this photo, you can see that my air pollution alert button was glowing red, indicating my air quality was poor – because my neighbor was smoking. The air purifier was in Auto AI mode, so I heard the fan strength increasing, which led to me walk over and take a closer look. The red light jumped out at me, and at the same time, I started smelling the smoke. Around 4 or 5 minutes later, the red light went off, the fan speed decreased, and the smoke smell dissipated. That was my first test – quite unintentional – and the air purifier passed with flying colors.

The Auto AI mode did an excellent job of detecting smoke and adjusting the fan speed as necessary to remove allergens and noxious odors. Most of the time, when smoke and noxious odors were introduced in the air, the air purifier removed them and returned to normal in 15 to 20 minutes.

According to the company, the Dreame FP10 has a CADR of 206 CFM and is designed for a living space of 1,346 sq. ft. My open living space is less than half of that, and my bedroom is even smaller. Keep in mind that if it takes 15 to 20 minutes to clear the smoke in my spaces, it would take much longer to purify the air in a 1,346 sq. ft. area.

As the Dreame FP10 is designed to remove pet odors, the company states that it removes methanethiol (fecal and oral odors), hydrogen sulfide (excrement odors), trimethylamine (pet food and body odors), and ammonia (litter and urine odors).

I don’t have pets; however, I thought it did a good job of removing TVOCs (total volatile organic compounds), like formaldehyde and benzene (including tobacco smoke). The four-stage filtration process includes the primary filter, HEPA filter, odor-lock layer, and odor removal layer. So, in addition to capturing dust, particles, and allergens, the carbon in the odor-lock layer captures odors, and the odor removal layer chemically decomposes the odors.

The app made the air purifier very easy and convenient to use. I could select modes, and when using the custom mode, I could change the fan speed from 1 to 10. There are also options to turn the child lock on, and set a timer.

However, the onboard controls were another story, and they were rather tedious to view and use. Admittedly, it was easy to see the air pollution alert button when it turned red – because that color would jump out from anywhere. However, it was difficult to read the rest of the icons on the rim of the air purifier. At the same time, I will acknowledge that if you have pets, the position of the controls makes it less likely that your animal would accidentally change one of the settings or selections.

Regarding the noise level, it was 33.9 dB in Auto AI mode, 57.1 dB in Pet Purify mode, 35.0dB in Sleep mode, and when in Custom mode, 45.8 dB on speed 5, and 62.3 dB on speed 10. Keep in mind that my HVAC unit runs 24/7 and I have wall clocks and other items that could be producing background noise as well, so this could contribute to artificially-higher air purifier noise levels.

Should you buy it?

You have a pet – especially a cat.

The air purifier is pet-friendly, captures pet hair, and removes pet odors. And it’s designed to let cats perch on the top.

You likely would not need these types of features for standard dust.

Final Thoughts

The Dreame F10 is a beautiful air purifier that works as well as it looks. It’s expensive, but for homes with pets, you won’t have to worry about it being knocked over, and the top is designed for cats to perch on top. The air purifier also has a dual roller brush and hair collection chamber, along with pet-odor removing properties. So, it may be worth the investment to keep your home hair- and odor-free.

How We Test

We test every air purifier we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product.

Find out more about how we test in our ethics policy.

  • Used as our main air purifier for the review period
  • We test smart purifiers with their apps and we test Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility
  • We time how long it takes each purifier to remove smoke from a closed room

FAQs

Does the tabletop weigh my pet?

No, your cat can only sit on the tabletop that comes with air purifier. However, the pet weighing tray is a separate top that’s currently $100.

Why is the network connection failing?

You phone must be connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. The router should not merge the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
