Yard Force LM C37B 40V Cordless Lawn Mower
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Great for smaller lawns, there are some neat premium features included.

The Yard Force LM C37B is a capable mower that has several premium features for a reasonable price. Adjusting the cut height is easy, it comes with two batteries, and you can easily tell when the grass collection box is full, but it can be a pain to put together and fold up. If you’re already running Yard Force garden equipment, this is a solid choice.

  • Well priced for a cordless mower and two batteries

  • Integrated roller for attempting lawn stripes

  • Decent battery life

  • Some assembly required

  • 37cm cut deck isn’t huge

  • No safety key

Key Features

Introduction

Doubling up on 20V batteries to deliver 40V of cutting power, the Yard Force LM C37B is a well-priced and powerful lawn mower, able to deal with lawns of 400m². With an integrated roller and seven different cutting heights, it offers some premium features you don’t normally find at this price.

Design and Features

  • Dual 20 Volt battery power
  • Clever height adjust action
  • Full grass collection box indicator

First off was assembly. I was probably spoiled by the “ready to go straight out of the box” nature of a lot of other mowers, because I needed to attach the two-part handle before getting on with mowing. It wasn’t a daunting task, just four cam lever bolts, but it’s something to consider if you’re not mechanically minded.

Once clamped into place, the mower handle felt solid and there were no wobbles or rattles during use. I’m not a huge fan of the cam lever bolts though; they’re a bit fiddly when it comes to folding the mower up for storage. It’s hard to know whether they’re screwed on too tight. Apart from that, the mower folds up nice and small and stands on its end for easy storage.

The cut width of 37 cm is fine for smaller gardens. It’s not going to deal with wide lawns as quickly as the enormous DeWalt DCMWP134’s gargantuan 53cm deck, but it’s a much lighter and nippier machine. The 15.5 kg overall weight with two batteries installed makes it easy enough to pick up and carry over obstacles or on stairs.

The foam-covered handle is comfortable to hang on to, and the safety switch is easy enough to engage for mowing. With large plastic wheels on the back and front it can cope with uneven terrain and features a small plastic roller on the rear to help create lawn stripes.

However, the Yard Force LM C37B doesn’t feel quite as well put together compared with other more premium models like the Husqvarna Aspire LC34-P4A. The markings for the height adjustment were a bit off and there was a bit of glue residue around the vents, but apart from that it felt like a decent lawnmower.

To up the power, the Yard Force LM C37B comes with a pair of 2.5Ah 20V batteries, which then power the 40V motor. Each battery has a charge level indicator: press a button, and the display shows the charge in percentage form, which is a step up from the normal LED battery indicators. Batteries slide into the machine with a nice click, but you can’t see the current charge level on the outside of the battery compartment.

The parallel charger is a nice touch; you can top up both batteries at the same time. That’s a bit neater than with the larger LawnMaster 48V 41cm, which also has two batteries (48V in this case), but ships with two individual chargers.

The mower has seven adjustable heights from 25 – 75 mm. I like about the spring-loaded system: you press an orange button on the top with your foot and lift the whole mower body up and down to select a height.

The grass collection box is made from fabric with a metal frame and can hold up to 40 litres. It features a handy indicator to tell you when the box is full, a bit like the Stihl RMA 248.3. The indicator works well and only engages when the box is completely full. It saves having to keep checking if you need to dump the clippings.

And if you don’t want to collect your clippings, there’s a mulching plug you can install inside the rear of the mower. There’s no option to side discharge clippings, but that feature seems to be only found on bigger mowers anyway.

It’s a shame the LM C37B doesn’t come with a safety key, but safety keys are by no means universal to battery-powered mowers.

Performance

  • Plenty of mowing power
  • Good battery life
  • Heavy areas can slow the motor

I tested this mower out on a medium size garden of around 250 m². It was mainly flat but had some undulating sections and several odd little corners and overhanging trees to manoeuvre around. Small and light enough to push easily, this lawn mower handled this lawn with ease.

Although the Yard Force LM C37B has a little roller on the underside of the mower, it doesn’t quite have the weight to produce well defined stripes. The 15.5 kg weight makes it easy to push around but you’d need a little more heft to produce stripes, if that’s what you want in the garden.

I wasn’t able to stall the motor, but it struggled a bit when pushed into very overgrown grass. It didn’t feel as powerful as some of the more premium mowers on test, or the LawnMaster 48V 41cm, but for the price it did a good job. The quality of cut left behind was fine, and the collection box was easy to empty too.

Should you buy it?

You want premium features at a lower price

Enough power and battery life to cut a reasonable-sized garden, and with a roller and simple cutting height adjustment, this is a neat, well-priced choice.

You shouldn’t buy if you want more power or range

If you’ve got thicker grass or more lawn to deal with a larger, more powerful lawn mower will be a better choice.

Final Thoughts

This is a good little mower for small to medium-sized gardens. It’s well priced for most homeowners, too, as it comes with a pair of batteries that can be used in other Yard Force gear. It folds up quite neatly for storage and has some premium features, like a one-touch sprung height-adjustable deck. If you need to cut a big lawn or need a bit more cutting power, then our guide to the best cordless lawn mowers can help.
