BGMI ban: Krafton to hold meeting with MeitY following the Shocking move
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

After the BGMI ban by the government which saw the removal of the game from Play Store and App Store, Krafton, the publisher of the game, will be holding a meeting with MeitY to resolve the issue.

During the late evening of July 28, the popular online multiplayer battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) disappeared from both Google Play Store and the App Store of iOS. While the exact reason was not known at the time, it was reported that the game was removed due to a government order. Fans of the game were shocked as two years ago, in 2020, the same fate befell PUBG Mobile, the game BGMI replaced. At the time, the government cited its publisher Tencent’s China links as the reason. But now, even after the original publisher Krafton took over the game and re-released it as BGMI, the government has decided to ban it. Now, according to reports, Krafton will be holding meetings with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) tomorrow to discuss the BGMI ban.

Following the BGMI ban, Krafton to meet MeitY

According to a report by TalkEsport, Krafton will be holding meetings with the government tomorrow over the BGMI ban. Reportedly, the removal from the App Store and Play Store was due to data migration concerns relating to the game and its links with China.

“We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from Google Play store and the App store and will let you know once we get specific information,” a Krafton spokesperson told MySmartPrice when asked about the reason behind the ban.

A Google spokesperson also confirmed the delisting to MoneyControl. He said, “On receipt of the order, following (the) established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India”.

Krafton cut its ties with Tencent following the ban of PUBG Mobile and published BGMI on its own for the Indian demographic. After resolving the concerns of the Government, the game was allowed to enter the Indian market in July 2021. The publisher had also established a subsidiary in India and had promised to invest $100 million in India’s local gaming and eSports industry in November 2020. Earlier this month, BGMI crossed the 100 million registered users milestone in India.
