In a landmark development for scientific research, the University of Wolverhampton’s Faculty of Science and Engineering has announced an exciting partnership with the MAGI Group, Italy. Professor Izabela Radecka and Dr. Abhishek Gupta recently embarked on a visit to MAGI Group’s headquarters in San Felice, Italy, where they identified shared research interests that laid the groundwork for future collaborations. This visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University and MAGI Group, formalizing their commitment to joint research endeavors.

Founded in 2006, the MAGI Group has established itself as a leader in research and diagnostics in diverse omics sciences applied to human nutrition, with facilities located in the Italian Alps in Trentino-Alto Adige and on Lake Garda. This expertise encompasses advanced omics technologies and diagnostics, focusing on molecular biology and various aspects of human health and nutrition sciences.

Dr. Matteo Bertelli from MAGI Group, set to visit the University of Wolverhampton following the initial meeting, expressed optimism about the collaboration. This partnership promises to merge the academic prowess of the university’s staff—led by Professor Radecka and Dr. Gupta—with MAGI Group’s industrial expertise. Together, they aim to tackle significant challenges spanning biomedical advancements and sustainable agriculture.

“Developing sustainable agriculture is pivotal,” remarked Dr. Bertelli, highlighting their shared focus on leveraging microorganisms, or bioresources, to revolutionize agricultural practices. By reducing reliance on fertilizers and pesticides, their research aims to minimize environmental impact while promoting eco-friendly agricultural methods.

Professor Radecka, renowned for her contributions in biotechnology, brings extensive expertise in antimicrobial activities and eco-efficient production methods using bacterial processes. Her research interests, including the production of biodegradable polymers and probiotics, align perfectly with the collaborative goals of enhancing sustainable practices through innovative biotechnologies.

Dr. Abhishek Gupta, a senior lecturer with a background in pharmacology and biomedical research, adds depth to the partnership with his work in non-antibiotic therapies. His research, focusing on the application of natural compounds and metal nanoparticles, underscores his commitment to sustainable and innovative solutions in healthcare and beyond.

As this partnership unfolds, it promises not only to advance scientific knowledge but also to drive practical solutions that address global challenges. For more details on this collaborative initiative and related research endeavors, please visit:
