First, South Dakota Gov. Kristi L. Noem wrote about killing her 14-month-old dog, Cricket, in her soon-to-be-released book, “No Going Back.”

Then, over the course of three separate days, the Republican posted on social media about killing her dog — a series of missives that ranged from book promotion to defensive explanation to, finally, blame-the-media spin.
