Today, speaking at a global Summit for Democracy hosted by his administration, President Biden hailed what he described as a strengthening of democracies around the world despite recent moves that have been widely viewed as backsliding in nations including Mexico, India and Brazil, and turmoil over a plan in Israel by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to assert greater control over that country’s judiciary. “Today, we can say with pride that the democracies of the world are getting stronger, not weaker,” Biden said, calling it a “turning point.”
